House

There are 8 House buildings in your Town, each with a unique number. Each House can be upgraded to level 10. The purpose of upgrading each House is to provide more room for Furniture which provides a range of benefits. Beds allow your Town to hold more Residents (which can work at other buildings like the Sawmill) while other Furniture items provide increased Satisfaction and Comfort to Residents.

The net effect of increasing your House levels and improving Furniture for happier residents is an increase in daily rewards tied to your Approval Rating (which you can check in the Suggestion Box), and greater generation of Contentment, which is the currency consumed when issuing Governor Orders in the Court of Justice.

Since Houses are only a prerequisite for the earliest Town Center levels in the tutorial and Resident happiness plays a very limited role in your account progression, you can safely deprioritize maxing out every House and its corresponding Furniture. This is especially true for the Furniture in each House that costs Gold, which will be scarce in your earliest days of playing.

Eventually, you will want to go back and max out all of your Furniture in all of your Houses since the small amount of passive Gold generation in your Town is tied to your Houses progression. But this can be safely done after a week or so of active playing when it is no longer bottlenecking your Academy research.
