Accelerating Your Early Game with the Desert Trial Event

One of the biggest differences between fast-growing accounts and average accounts in Lordrush is how efficiently they take advantage of recurring events. While many events are primarily about earning one-time rewards, Desert Trial has a much larger cumulative impact because it unlocks one of the most valuable early-game heroes in the entire game: Thora.

The event first appears on the third day after your Empire begins and returns regularly afterward. Although it only lasts for five days each time, the rewards you earn during those five days continue paying dividends for months. Not only does Desert Trial provide a reliable source of Thora shards, but it also rewards Hero XP, speedups, resources, stamina, and gems while creating one of the strongest early-game growth loops available.

Desert Trial is a recurring investment in your account's long-term progression. Players who understand how to use the event efficiently will develop their economy faster, unlock stronger heroes sooner, and stretch every point of stamina much further than players who simply participate casually.

This guide explains exactly how Desert Trial works, why Thora is so valuable, and the optimal strategy for using the event to accelerate your account as quickly as possible.

Event Fundamentals

Desert Trial becomes available on the third day after your Empire opens and remains active for five days. During this time, your primary objective is to defeat Beasts in solo marches.

Unlike normal Beast hunting, every Beast defeated during Desert Trial has a chance to drop one of two special event items: Clawshards and Challenger Pouches. Both are valuable, but they serve very different purposes.

Clawshards

Clawshards are the centerpiece of the event.

After collecting one, you can use it either from your backpack or directly through the Desert Trial interface to summon a Dreadwolf.

A Dreadwolf is a unique Terror that only the player who summoned it can rally. Fortunately, it has an extremely low power rating of only 8,100, meaning virtually every active player can defeat it with ease, especially since alliance members join the rally.

A Dreadwolf rally in Desert Trial

Because these rallies are so easy to complete, Desert Trial is accessible even for free-to-play (F2P) players.

Dreadwolf Rally Rewards

Leading a successful Dreadwolf rally awards several valuable rewards:

  • 2 to 4 Thora Hero Shards
  • 5,000 Hero XP
  • 10 to 20 minutes of Speedups
  • Over 300,000 Resources

The traditional rally rewards are excellent on their own, but the real prize is the steady stream of Thora shards.

Additionally, after leading 10 successful Dreadwolf rallies during a Desert Trial event, you receive a one-time bonus reward of 10 additional Thora shards. This bonus resets every time the event returns, making it something you should aim to complete during every Desert Trial cycle.

Rally Join Rewards

Even if you are not leading a rally yourself, joining your alliance's Dreadwolf rallies is extremely worthwhile.

Every successful rally you join gives you the normal participation rewards, including (slightly less) Hero XP, speedups, and resources, while also providing a chance to receive an additional Thora Hero Shard.

You can receive these rally joiner rewards up to 50 times each day, making alliance participation one of the easiest ways to steadily increase your Thora progression. If your alliance is actively coordinating Desert Trial rallies, everyone benefits.

Clawshards Never Expire

One of the most overlooked mechanics of Desert Trial is that Clawshards remain in your backpack permanently.

While you can only earn new Clawshards during the event itself, any Clawshards you collect can be saved indefinitely. That means if you finish the event with dozens, or even hundreds, of Clawshards, you can continue summoning Dreadwolves long after Desert Trial has ended.

This dramatically extends the value of every event and allows both you and your alliance to continue farming Thora throughout the coming weeks instead of being limited to only the five Desert Trial event days.

Challenger Pouches

The second event drop is the Challenger Pouch.

Opening a Challenger Pouch grants a random reward from a loot pool that includes items such as:

  • Gems
  • Stamina
  • General Speedups
  • Hero XP

These rewards are surprisingly generous considering they come from simply hunting Beasts.

In fact, Challenger Pouches are one of the reasons Desert Trial offers such excellent stamina efficiency. Many of the stamina points you spend during Beast hunting come back through the pouch rewards, effectively reducing the overall cost of participating in the event.

What's So Great About Thora?

At first glance, Thora might appear to be just another early-game hero. In reality, she is one of the strongest growth heroes available during the opening weeks of an Empire because she improves one of the most important resources in Lordrush: stamina efficiency.

Iron Constitution

Thora's defining skill is Iron Constitution. When she leads Beast hunts and rallies, this skill reduces stamina costs by up to 20% once fully upgraded.

Thora's Iron Constitution skill

That may not sound dramatic initially, but over weeks and months it represents hundreds, or even thousands, of additional Beast hunts and Terror rallies compared to players without the skill.

Since Beast hunting generates Hero XP, resources, speedups, event items, and other valuable rewards, every point of stamina saved effectively becomes additional account growth. Early in the game, when nearly every player struggles with limited resources, this efficiency advantage compounds quickly.

A Powerful Growth Loop

Perhaps the best aspect of Desert Trial is that it creates a self-reinforcing progression cycle.

The event gives you Thora shards. Those shards improve Thora. An improved Thora reduces stamina costs. Lower stamina costs allow you to earn more rewards during future Desert Trial events (and outside of it). Those rewards earn even more Thora shards.

Very few events in Lordrush create this kind of positive feedback loop, which is why investing in Thora early produces benefits long after many other early-game rewards have been forgotten.

Strong Early Conquest Progression

Another advantage is that Desert Trial allows you to build a single hero unusually quickly. Unlike many heroes that rely on slower hero shard acquisition methods, Thora can be upgraded aggressively simply by participating in a recurring event.

A stronger Thora (with her powerful Incendiary Arrows Conquest ability) helps push through early Conquest stages, increasing your passive income sooner than many other players. Eventually, stronger heroes will replace her in your primary Conquest lineup, but by then she has already served her purpose by accelerating your overall account progression during the period when every extra stage matters.

Long-Term Value Even After Maxing Her

Many new Lordrush players assume the event loses its value after fully upgrading Thora. Fortunately, that is not the case.

Several months into your Lordrush journey, you will eventually unlock events that allow excess Hero Shards to be exchanged for event currency. These currencies can often be spent on premium progression items such as:

  • Widgets
  • Governor Gear materials
  • Charm materials

You can exchange up to 500 excess Thora shards each time this event comes around, giving duplicate shards meaningful long-term value instead of letting them sit unused. In practice, this can represent the equivalent of roughly ten current-generation widgets every time the exchange event returns. Even after Thora reaches maximum stars, Desert Trial continues generating future progression.

Extra Value from Clawshards

Once Thora reaches her maximum star level, Desert Trial becomes even more flexible. Additional Clawshards can be converted into Desert Pouches, creating another avenue for obtaining valuable resources and gems.

Instead of becoming obsolete, Desert Trial simply shifts from hero progression toward resource generation.

How to Play Desert Trial to Maximize Account Growth

Once you understand the mechanics of Desert Trial, the event becomes less about simply completing objectives and more about making smart trade-offs. Your priorities should change as your account develops, but the overarching goal remains the same: convert your stamina into as much long-term account progression as possible.

Prioritize Beast Hunting During the Event

The first priority whenever Desert Trial is active is simply to hunt Beasts over other stamina usages (except Intel Missions).

Every Beast you defeat has a chance of dropping both Clawshards and Challenger Pouches, making this one of the most rewarding times in the game to spend stamina. Challenger Pouches frequently return stamina alongside Hero XP, speedups, gems, and other valuable rewards, meaning the effective stamina cost of Beast hunting is much lower than it first appears.

If you have stamina items sitting in your backpack, Desert Trial is one of the best opportunities to use them. Much of that stamina will effectively come back through the event rewards while simultaneously helping you build Thora. Separate from the stamina, the rewards are some of the best return per stamina spent in Lordrush.

Don't Miss the Easy Thora Shards

Although Beast hunting is your primary activity, you should make a point of leading at least 10 Dreadwolf rallies during each Desert Trial event. Doing so unlocks the one-time bonus reward of 10 additional Thora shards, making it one of the highest-value objectives available.

At the same time, try to join as many alliance Dreadwolf rallies as possible. Rally joiners have a chance of earning additional Thora shards, and you can receive these rewards up to 50 times per day. In an active alliance, those extra shards accumulate surprisingly quickly and can get you some easy star levels for Thora.

Rush Thora's Four-Star Milestone

For most players, the best early investment is to build Thora to 4 stars as quickly as possible. This allows you to fully upgrade Iron Constitution, reducing the stamina cost of Beast hunts by up to 20%. Since Beast hunting is one of the primary ways to generate resources and progression throughout the early game, unlocking this bonus sooner creates compounding value for every future Desert Trial event and every Beast you hunt afterward.

At the same time, you do get "partial credit" for each star level (and thus skill level), so it is OK if you cannot get this far in a single Desert Trial event.

Furthermore, once Iron Constitution is fully upgraded, the urgency to continue starring up Thora drops considerably. At that point, it often becomes worthwhile to save additional shards for events that reward hero shard spending, such as Hall of Governors.

Know When Beast Hunting Is More Valuable Than Dreadwolf Rallies

As your account bottlenecks change, your priorities naturally begin to shift.

For example, if your Diana is already waiting on skill books rather than additional stars, hosting endless Dreadwolf rallies becomes less attractive. Instead, simply continue hunting Beasts with Diana in your march.

Because Challenger Pouches are included in the Desert Trial loot pool, Beast hunting during this event offers one of the best stamina-to-reward conversions currently available in Lordrush. Even if Thora is no longer your primary focus, the event remains an excellent opportunity to stockpile Hero XP, resources, speedups, gems, and additional stamina.

In this case, your goal should be to stop running Dreadwolf rallies and instead maximize the Desert Pouches and Clawshards you get from defeating Beasts during this limited time period.

Think Beyond the Five-Day Event

One of the biggest mistakes players make is treating Desert Trial as if it ends when the timer expires.

While Clawshards can only be earned during the event, they remain permanently in your backpack. That means every Clawshard you save represents another Dreadwolf rally that can be hosted at any point in the future.

Many experienced players intentionally leave Desert Trial with a large reserve of Clawshards and slowly work through them over the following weeks whenever they have spare stamina. If your entire alliance follows this approach, everyone can continue earning Thora shards well after the event has ended, dramatically increasing the overall value of each Desert Trial cycle.

Decide How to Use Desert Trial in the Late Game

Even after you have fully maxed Thora, Desert Trial continues to present meaningful choices.

You can continue farming Thora shards to exchange during future hero shard conversion events, where excess shards can be traded for valuable progression materials such as widgets, Governor Gear, and Charm materials.

Alternatively, once Thora is fully upgraded, you gain the ability to convert additional Clawshards into Desert Pouches instead. If your account is currently constrained by gems (for example, to maximize value from Hero Roulette), this may become the stronger option.

Neither approach is universally correct. The optimal decision depends on your current bottlenecks, but the important point is that Desert Trial continues generating value long after you have finished building Thora.

Conclusion

Desert Trial is much more than an event for collecting a few extra hero shards. It is one of the strongest account acceleration events available during the opening days of Lordrush and remains relevant long after your early game has ended.

By prioritizing Beast hunting during the event, completing your ten Dreadwolf rallies, joining your alliance's rallies whenever possible, and rushing Thora to a fully upgraded Iron Constitution, you create a progression loop that continuously improves your stamina efficiency. That additional efficiency translates into more resources, more Hero XP, more speedups, and faster overall growth across nearly every area of the game.

Perhaps most importantly, remember that Desert Trial is a recurring event. Missing a few rewards is never the end of the world, but consistently participating every time it returns will steadily separate your account from players who treat it as just another temporary event. Combined with smart stamina management and an active alliance, Desert Trial becomes one of the highest-value investments you can make during your first months in Lordrush, and one that continues paying dividends well into the late game.
