Lordrush Hero Gear Guide: From Fundamentals to Optimization

Hero gear is arguably the most critical investment in your Lordrush account. Unlike heroes, which are depreciating assets that get replaced by later generations, hero gear is a transferable asset. When a new, more powerful hero arrives, you simply move your high-level gear to them, carrying your investment forward. However, because gear development requires rare, resources like Forgehammers, making the wrong upgrade choices can set your account back significantly.

Lordrush players unlock hero gear automatically after reaching Town Center level 15. At this point, you will begin receiving Hero Gear pieces through a variety of sources such as Conquest income, event rewards, Arena rewards, and clearing certain missions.

There are multiple

There are multiple rarities of Hero Gear, with Mythic (Gold) Gear being the most sought after. Eventually, your goal should be to have your main team have all pieces of Mythic Hero Gear.

1. Hero Gear Fundamentals: Key Terms and Upgrade Mechanics

To optimize your gear, you must first understand the distinct ways to increase its power and the risks associated with each.

Enhancement (Levels 0–100)

Enhancement is the process of increasing a gear piece’s level using Gear Experience (XP) or by consuming lower-quality gear as "fodder".

  • The Stats: Enhancement primarily boosts the base stats of the gear (e.g., Attack and Defense for Purple/Mythic gear).
  • The Risk: There is zero risk with enhancement up to level 100. You can reforge this XP for free once per day, returning 100% of the invested materials to your bag.

Please note that reforging your gear is only possible after day 28 in your Empire. To see the exact unlock date for your Empire, check out our Empire Timeline module.

Mastery forging levels

Mastery Forging (Levels 1–20)

Once you reach Town Center level 20 and obtain Mythic (Gold) gear, you unlock Mastery Forging. This system uses Forgehammers to provide a multiplicative bonus to the gear’s total stats. Initially, you can only raise mastery up by 10 levels, but the mastery cap becomes level 20 once your Empire unlocks Ascended (red) hero gear (see below).

  • The Formula: Each Mastery level adds a 10% bonus to the enhanced stat. A piece at Mastery 10 has a 2.0x multiplier, effectively doubling its power.
  • The Cost: Mastery becomes increasingly expensive. Mastery Level 1 only requires 10 Forgehammers, while getting a piece to Mastery Level 10 requires 100 Forgehammers. Additional Mastery levels 11–20 (in red gear) require both Forgehammers and additional Mythic Gear pieces as fodder.
  • The Risk: Unlike XP, resetting Mastery levels carries a 50% loss penalty of Forgehammers and should almost always be avoided. To “correct” bad mastery investment, you should leave the overinvested pieces alone and just continue investing more aggressively with the right pieces until you achieve an appropriate balance of stats.

Ascension and red

Ascension and Red Gear (Levels 101–200)

Late-game progression involves Ascending Mythic gear to Red Gear once it reaches level 100 and Mastery 10.

  • XP Lock: This is the most dangerous mechanic in the game. Once a piece is ascended to Red and you add XP past level 100, that XP is permanently locked to that piece and can never be reforged.
  • Imbuement Milestones: Red gear unlocks massive "Imbuement" bonuses at increments of 20 XP levels. These provide significant Expedition bonuses at level 120, 160, and 200 (e.g., +30% Attack) or Conquest bonuses at levels 140, and 180 (e.g., +15% Hero Attack). However, they require a super-rare resource called Mithril to reach the imbuement level.
  • Mastery Gating: You cannot enhance Red gear past certain levels without increasing its Mastery first. For example, level 160 requires Mastery 13, and level 200 requires Mastery 15.

All of these factors combine to make advancement of Hero Gear into Ascended (Red) territory an extremely expensive endeavor that should only be made with a high degree of intentionality. For many Lordrush players, even spenders, it is a multi-year journey to “max out” Red Gear for their main march.

2. Conventional Wisdom: The Standard Heuristics

Standard advice suggests building exactly one set of Hero Gear for each troop type (Infantry, Archer, and Lancers). You focus all resources on these three sets and transfer them to your strongest current-generation heroes. Building duplicate sets is generally seen as a low priority because the majority of your return on investment comes from your primary expedition team. Typically only whales will attempt to split resources into more than 3 pieces of Hero Gear.

However, even within these three main Hero Gear sets, there is the open question of how to prioritize investment across the different pieces. Should you raise them evenly or prioritize certain pieces ahead of others?

Many Lordrush players rely on simplified shortcuts, or heuristics, to manage their Hero Gear prioritization. While directionally helpful, these shortcuts often lead to suboptimal resource allocation.

The Heuristic Prioritization

Conventional guides typically rank stats in a static order:

  • Infantry Health: The "gold standard" for survivability in early PvE content and PvP events.
  • Archer Lethality: The primary driver of damage in Bear Hunt and offensive rallies.
  • Lancer Lethality: A secondary damage source, especially in the early game due to the prevalence of low-lancer formations.
  • Infantry Lethality: A low priority enhancement to damage, but still helpful in many formations given the large share of infantry.
  • Low Priority: Archer Health, and Lancer Health are often ignored or kept an arbitrary number of levels behind the main pieces. If your Lancers are taking damage, so the thinking goes, you have already lost the battle.

Again, this is directionally helpful guidance, but it still leaves open questions. Surely spending 10XP to get Lancer health gear to level 1 (+0.35% lancer health) is a better return on investment than spending 2,400XP getting an archer lethality gear from level 99 to 100 (+0.35% archer lethality), even if you place little value on Lancer health. So where is the intersection point at which the math changes? Where should you switch the next piece you invest in due to these diminishing returns?

It’s a surprisingly complex answer, but we have simplified it for you min/maxers out there who want to get every bit of efficiency out of your Hero Gear possible.

3. The Hero Gear Optimizer: A Mathematically Superior Answer

The Hero Gear Optimizer improves on conventional wisdom by replacing simple shortcuts with a Greedy Algorithm that evaluates millions of possible combinations in milliseconds. For the raw numbers behind it, the Hero Gear reference tables list the exact Forgehammer, XP, and stat-bonus costs at every level.

The Greedy Algorithm Logic

The tool doesn't just look at what piece is "best" in a vacuum. Instead, it asks: "Which single upgrade provides the most weighted stat gain per resource spent right now?".

  • Weights Matter: If you value Infantry Health (weight 1.5) more than Lancer Health (weight 0.4), the Optimizer calculates the "Value-Per-XP" by multiplying the stat gain by the weight.
  • Multiplicative Synergy: The optimizer recognizes that adding XP to a piece with high Mastery is more efficient because that stat is also receiving a mastery bonus. This is especially important if you are looking to spend both XP and Forgehammers at the same time.

Budget Normalization and Scarcity

A human player might struggle to decide if spending 10 Mithril is "better" than spending 5,000 XP. The optimizer uses percentage-based normalization. If you have a massive stockpile of XP but very little Mithril, the optimizer will "charge" more for the Mithril in its internal math, naturally steering you toward upgrades that use your abundant resources first.

“Completing” Mythic Gear

Since the most likely way that you will earn Mythic Hero Gear is from Custom Mythic Hero Gear Chests, you will frequently need to chose your next piece of Mythic Hero Gear for yourself. The Hero Gear Optimizer helps new Lordrush players understand which piece gives the biggest value improvement on stats so you can always make the right choice from the chest.

Breaking through mastery

Breaking Through "Mastery Gates"

One major limitation of human planning is the Mastery Gate. You might avoid upgrading a piece's Mastery because it looks "inefficient" at low levels, but you need that Mastery to unlock higher enhancement levels. The optimizer evaluates the combined path (e.g., M11 to M13 + Level 130 to 160) as a single transaction to see if the massive Imbuement bonus at the end justifies the cost.

Advanced Strategy: Experience Banking

The tool identifies a powerful trick called Experience Banking. Since XP in Mythic gear is refundable but XP in Red gear is locked, the optimizer may recommend keeping your lowest-priority pieces (like Lancer Health) at Mythic level 100 if you don’t have other places to put it. This gear acts as a "bank." When you finally have enough Mithril to hit a massive milestone on a priority piece (like an Infantry Helm at R160), the optimizer will suggest reforging the bank to instantly provide the millions of XP needed for that high-value, permanent Red gear jump.

The Irreversibility Penalty

To prevent "accidental" permanent mistakes, the optimizer applies a small internal cost penalty to any resource that cannot be recovered (Mithril, Forgehammers, and Red Gear XP). This ensures the tool only recommends a permanent "locked" upgrade if the stat gain is more valuable than a reversible one.

Building for Your Specific Goals: Build Profiles

Unlike static guides, the optimizer allows you to choose a Build Profile that matches your playstyle:

  • Early Game Growth: Heavily prioritizes Infantry Health (to survive Vikings and Sanctuaries) and Archer Lethality (to maximize Forgehammer income from Bear Hunt).
  • Early Game Combat: Aimed at whales who want to dominate PvP events like Castle Battle.

Conclusion: Adopting an Economic Mindset

Mastering hero gear in Lordrush requires moving away from "shiny object syndrome" and toward an economic mindset. By understanding which assets retain value (regular gear and XP) and which depreciate (older hero stars and specific widgets), you can out-compete players who spend significantly more but invest poorly.

The Hero Gear Optimizer is your primary tool for this journey. It "raises the floor" of your account by ensuring your finite resources are always working toward the highest possible return. Whether you are a F2P player trying to leapfrog spenders or a whale looking to maximize your Castle Battle garrison, mathematical optimization is the only way to ensure your Empire stands the test of time. Happy gaming out there!.
